A drawbridge made of galvanized steel has been created as an artistic intervention in the immediate vicinity of Castle Mauterndorf. This pedestrian bridge is part of a very scenic footpath around the castle. Its special feature is two 4 m long bridge arms, which can be operated by a single smooth-running hand crank via a cable drive; the construction is completely without mechanical drive. The drawbridge spans a tributary of the Taurach and is located on the north side of the castle.
Together with the approach structures, the bridge has a total length of 24.60 m and a width of 1.30 m.
The artist Toni Schmale was the winner of the competition from a total of six entries for artistic designs.
