Historic adventure castle in the Salzburger Lungau
Castle Mauterndorf used to be a toll station where travelers had to pay tolls on their way across the Alps. In summer, the noble prince archbishops resided in the feudal chambers of the castle. No wonder, given the beautiful natural surroundings of Salzburg's Lungau region in which the proud castle stands! Today, the castle experience delights visitors of all ages with numerous medieval stations, a large knights' playground and the 44-metre-high, 700-year-old fortified tower. The absolute highlight: the natural circular path through the castle park with a real drawbridge.
